Attention all ESL students

As a reading specialist, I have developed a series of books which are entertaining, mature and easy to read. Both the “Psychic Sara Series” and “The Taryn Teen Trilogy” (futuristic daughter of Sara) are geared towards a high school level of reading; however, relates to an adult audience without extra adult content. In addition, several adult sequels to include “The Secrets of Stonehenge Society”, a Sara adult sequel and Love’s Captive Fate, a Taryn adult sequel are also offered. To conclude, the daughter of Taryn, Karma, concludes the series with  adult books “Karma: Empowered” and Karma: “Captive Hearts”. For only $.99 each on the kindle and under $12.00, one can read the entire series of eleven books. All of these are available on Amazon and Createspace in paperback also. Self-publishing – an incredible learning experience

After retiring I finally had some extra time and could only then realize my dream of publishing a book. I chose “Young Adult” category to begin with since I had so much experience in that area between many years of teaching and comparable years as a mother. In addition, I felt that teens, especially young girls, could benefit from a series of books about serious life issues, intertwined with the fantasy aspect involving special powers. Thus the “Psychic Sara Series”  was born and evolved into a set of four books, all within a nine month period.

It was all a learning experience as I studied the many offers from “Self Publishing Companies” but, then again, the prices were cost inhibited which meant that I could only afford 1-2 books, instead of four, overall. I read the book “Self-Printed” by Catherine Ryan Howard from cover to cover and learned about what self-publishing entailed. Then, I came to realize, although I am basically computer efficient, I wasn’t at the caliber of what was needed to completely self-publish, especially in the e-book world.

The first action, after completing my first book, was finding an editor. I was fortunate to find one that was about half the cost of normal editing, although still expensive on a retired person’s income. Here, I was able to undergo a quick lesson of English composition and grammar which involved many rewrites. However, since it was basically a review class, I was able to catch on quickly. I, also, did sign up for a computer grammar review site also.

In addition, through Ryan’s book, I found a cover designer in England. Since the cover is the most important marketing tool, I wanted it to reflect the books. However, since my character aged, it was a bit challenging. Although through various photo sites, it was accomplished and I am satisfied with the results.

I was extremely fortunate a find a formatter who was able to convert my draft into an acceptable form for Smashword’s Premium e-book catalog which expanded publication. She then set up the paperback form to publish on Amazon. I was then able to upload it for the Kindle Direct through their automatic conversion site. Without her, who has a degree in Computer Science, I would still be trying to figure it all out to this day.

All of this reduced the expenses in half, my books were published and I accomplished the lifelong dream of becoming an author. This was a wonderful learning experience and although I have completed my initial mission, I can’t wait to start my next novel!

Please share my first book “Sara the Psychic Sleuth” which will be offered free on all e-book sites beginning the week of January 27th!  The remaining three books “Sara to the Second Power”, “Sara and the Destiny of the Stars” and finally “Sara and the Cyber Psychic Squad” (to be released by 2/1) can be uploaded free at all libraries and are priced between $.99-$2.99. Check out my website for updates at www.peggymcgeebooks.com. I appreciate all input and will answer any questions.  Happy reading!
